WELCOME TO RWANDA

WHY RWANDA?

RWANDA

Rwanda is a landlocked East African country with a green, mountainous landscape. Its renowned Virunga volcanoes is home to some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. Tracking these primate relatives through the bamboo forests and equatorial jungles is for many the highlight of their African travels.

Ofcourse, “Le Pays des Mille Collines” or The Land of a Thousand Hills as it is known isn’t all monkey business. Rwanda is also known for being a lush country of endless mountains and stunning scenery. The shores of Lake Kivu conceal some of the best inland beaches on the continent, while Parc National Nyungwe Forest protects extensive tracts of mountaine forest. .

Helpful hint, when travelling to Rwanda it is recommended to start your safari trip from Kigali International Airport.

TOP highlights:

Parc National des Volcans, hike along the forested slopes of the Virungas in search of silverback gorillas and golden monkeys.

WHEN TO VISIT RWANDA

“TIMING IS EVERYTHING”

Although it's regarded as a year-round activity, the best time to visit Rwanda for a gorilla trek is during the short dry season from mid-December to early February or over the long dry season months of June to September. These periods offer by far the easiest hiking conditions and the lowest malaria risk. You can visit Rwanda and trek gorillas outside these optimum times of year but bear in mind that the going will be more difficult in the rain as paths are steep and maybe muddy.

The best time to go to Rwanda for chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe, however, is during the two rainy seasons - mid-February to early June and mid-September to mid-December - as the apes are easier to locate. Food is harder to find in the dry seasons and the chimp families often range far into the forest interior.
