WHY RWANDA?

RWANDA

Discover Rwanda: The Land of a Thousand Hills

Nestled in East Africa, Rwanda is a captivating landlocked country adorned with lush, mountainous landscapes. Its crown jewel, the Virunga volcanoes, cradle some of the world's last remaining mountain gorillas. Tracking these majestic creatures through bamboo forests and equatorial jungles is an African adventure of a lifetime.

But Rwanda, often known as "Le Pays des Mille Collines" or "The Land of a Thousand Hills," offers much more than primate encounters. It boasts an enchanting terrain of endless mountains and breathtaking scenery. Along the shores of Lake Kivu, hidden treasures await, with some of the continent's finest inland beaches. Meanwhile, Parc National Nyungwe Forest preserves vast expanses of mountainous rainforests.

Top Highlights:

Parc National des Volcans: Embark on a hike along the forested slopes of the Virungas to encounter silverback gorillas and golden monkeys.

Parc National de Nyungwe: Immerse yourself in steamy rainforests inhabited by colobus monkeys and chimpanzees.

Parc National de L'Akagera: Experience a Rwandan-style safari in this emerging game park.

Gisenyi: Relax on the sandy shores of Lake Kivu, enjoying the tranquil beauty of this stunning lake.

Kigali Memorial Centre: Confront the poignant history of genocide at this haunting memorial on the outskirts of the capital.

WHEN TO VISIT RWANDA

“TIMING IS EVERYTHING”

While gorilla trekking can be enjoyed year-round, the best time to visit Rwanda for this extraordinary experience is during the short dry season from mid-December to early February or the extended dry season from June to September. These periods offer the most favourable hiking conditions and the lowest malaria risk. However, Rwanda welcomes visitors for gorilla treks throughout the year, keeping in mind that paths may be steeper and muddier during the rainy season.

For chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe, the best time to visit Rwanda is during the two rainy seasons: mid-February to early June and mid-September to mid-December. During these periods, chimpanzees are easier to locate as they venture closer to find food. In the dry seasons, the chimpanzee families often roam deep into the forest interior, making sightings more challenging.
