Arriving at the Federal Air departure lounge we were pleasantly surprised with endless amounts of food, including my favourite foods - snacks! It was a comfortable place to relax while waiting for our flight. Federal Air was also very responsive and great in tracking down my ‘misplaced’ wedding dress and keeping it securely locked away until we could pick it up on our return to Johannesburg.
From the moment we hopped off the plane onto the Ulusaba airstrip we were made to feel like part of the family. Service was excellent and there was so much food we had to start skipping meals. Our room was stocked with drinks and snacks and the bathroom was the size of small house. The rubber ducky in the stand-a-lone bath was a special touch and the view from the toilet to die for. Rock Lodge is so beautiful and very relaxing. We loved sitting back in the comfy chairs watching the animals. We liked sitting with others at dinner and sharing stories, but yet having time to ourselves at lunchtime (if we choose to eat lunch). The food is great and we liked the chef coming out to explain the menu prior to dinner. The game drives were great. It's nice to see fewer jeeps on the road compared to national parks and the respect for animals by limiting to 3 jeeps per sighting. Sabi Sands is definitely the best place we have been in Africa for game viewing and luxury lodges.
For the wedding organisation so little effort was needed on our part. Neither of us dreamed it would be as perfect as it was. We were made to feel very special with the Ulusaba choir singing for us at the ceremony and the giant cake and food platter for us and Gelle! And the food platters brought to the room I was getting ready in for Gelle, Louise, Michelle and I. The horn chairs that were used in the ceremony were a special touch. The Minister was so friendly and he helped to make a nervous situation more relaxed. He made jokes about Brady having his running shoes on which I thought was funny. The wedding bush dinner was very special. All the candles, temporary bathroom, HUGE bar, chef..... WOW!. We imagined just a small table for two with a couple of candles with a guy hiding in the bushes with a spear to keep the hyenas away - not the entourage of staff there waiting just to serve us. That was truly a day to remember. Thanks so much to Genene for organising this wonderful dinner.
When it came time to leave it was very sad. I cried, Brady tried not to cry and Genene walked away before crying!
